I can say with certainty 2008 has been a tremendous year.
From the triumph of Barack Obama, the first elected African-American president, to the ever increasing saga of this country’s recession, the year 2008 has seen its share of ups and downs. We’ve seen anti-gay legislation, such as California’s Proposition 8 and Florida’s Amendment 2, become victorious in ensuring marriage remains between a man and woman only, while languishing in the pride that funnywoman Wanda Sykes finally came out the closet.
But with any rain, a dose of sunshine follows. That’s why 2009 brings the promise of a new year, with each day hopefully better than the last.
With that,
Sistahs on the Shelf hopes to improve upon itself, as well. In the third year of offering quality reviews of black lesbian novels, SOTS is giving you more in 2009.
Among the new and improved features:
Ad space: Beginning with the March 2009 edition of SOTS, publishers and authors will be able to purchase ad space on the site. The ads will consist of several sizes, and prices will be announced shortly.
Newsletter: Starting in January, SOTS will publish a monthly newsletter featuring both reviews and interviews from the site and other various content. The newsletter will arrive in a PDF document and will contain information about your favorite authors. If you’d like to subscribe, please sign up on our
contact page.
More content: SOTS is branching out to review movies! These movies will have a lesbian/bisexual theme, feature black or minority characters. Look for that soon.
Book Clubs: Do you belong to a book club? I would love to spotlight your club here, especially if you’re active in your community. For more information, visit
this page.
Survey: In order to serve you better, help us by completing our quick and easy
survey that will be up shortly. This survey is to compile information on site visitors simply for informational purposes.
Undoubtedly, Sistahs does recognize its role to the black lesbian community, and because of it, I want to offer more to the audience this website serves. I welcome any suggestions for improvements to SOTS, because without your involvement, it wouldn’t be as successful as it is.
Have a Happy New Year,
Rena
